Quest Theater Character Development

I love looking back at how my characters develop over time!

In the beginning of each story, I try to get to know the characters. For me, that includes finding ‘faces’ to represent them. This can either be photos on the internet or in magazines or, on some occasions, I’ll take the time to sketch them. After I have a name and face, I spend a lot of time giving them a back-story. Even if the details I come up with don’t make it into the book – like a favorite flavor of ice cream, for example – it helps me feel like I know the character well enough to write about the world from their point of view.

The Quest Theater characters were fun to develop. As you can see in the graphic above, the only two who remained the same from beginning to end were Bernie and Grandpa.
